I just came back from a trip up to smokey. And, We are extreamly lucky we get grommed trails, because the average joe snowmobiler can't make it up there. Especially if you have a newer machine with a slimmer track. It was horrid up there. All powder and slush. Hopefully by late January/early Febuary the trails will be all grommed.

With regards to a previous comment about reducing trail pass costs due to the season already being cut short by a month, we already have some of the cheapest trail passes in all of canada!! We should count ourselves lucky we have groomed trails at all, these guys work hard to provide this for us. I'll gladly pay the $113 (taxes incl) for the pass, with hopes that every winter we will have groomed trails to ride. And in a society where everything is increasing in price all the time, if trail passes go up to pay for the (increasing) price of fuel, I'll pay the increase as well. Thank you White-Wolf for the tremendous job you do.

It would be a rare year to see a groomer out now. And if you did, it's just preliminary maintenance. (filling in brooks and streams) The normal time for the groomer to get out and actually officially opening trails is usually very late Dec or early Jan. Lets not get excited yet, and keep praying for cold temps and snow!

Yeah. Winter is not a "set" season like Summer. It is very mysterious and unpredictable.

The trails never really opened before December, they're usually being worked on late January. Plus, this is good because the rain will pack down the snow, So when it freezes, you can go everywhere. And, it will get rid of the top layer of snow covering the lakes, giving them a PROPER chance to freeze over. And it's not the first late winter we ever had. Calm down. As for the trail fees, they charge those rates for a reason. Gas for the groomers is no longer cheap, and nither is the maintaining of those beasts.

With the rain we have (monday december 13) we need to see the cold weather... Maybe the white wolf should go to the goverment and ask ..... Usally by now i could be driving on the trails with my pass? like if it going to be a month later the goverment should make up a new price? This is going to turn alot of people from the skidoo pass!

Even with a late start to the winter, i don't think the groomers will be on the trails for any less. Usually, the groomers can't get on the lakes until the first or second week an january. Even if we did have 2 or 3 feet of snow,Ice conditions are most important for safety reasons.
As to the prices of the passes - The government regulates the price of the passes through Labrador Winter Trails. White Wolf can only make a suggestion to the minster on what prices should be, but the ultimate price schedule comes from government.
Thanks for your questions, and it's great to see some traffic on the site. Keep Coming Back!

I am considering a trip to your area. What is the best way to get to Lab City? Do many snowmobile from the coast, Blanc Sablon to Lab City? How late in the season can you snowmobile?
Thanks
