Where We Are
Image
Labrador West is the western region of Labrador, which is part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Located in Labrador West are the twin towns of Labrador City and Wabush. Both these mining communities have a large number of pastime opportunities for its residents and one of the best known is snowmobiling. Well bundled up and warm, residents spend an average of five months enjoying approximately 550 kilometres of excellent snowmobile trails.

You can get to Labrador West by air, rail, road and, yes, sled!

By Road
BAIE COMEAU ROAD: This road is almost 600 Km long travelling from Baie Comeau, Quebec, to Labrador West. Known as Route 389, it is paved approximately half the way while the other half is class B gravel. It travels through some very wild country and offers a number of interesting and pristine views.

TRANS LABRADOR HIGHWAY: Route 500 is 525 Km long and ends up in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. At the 240 Km point is the community of Churchill Falls, site of one of North America's major power producing plants. This gravel road, soon to be paved, also travels through some very wild country and also offers a number of interesting and pristine views.

By Sled
It is possible to travel into Labrador West by snowmobile, but it is for the more adventurous and experienced snow riders. There are very minimal facilities and markings. It is strongly recommended that riders travel with experienced guides, such as the trail from Port Cartier, Quebec to Fermont, Quebec, 25 Km from Labrador City. Contact the Quebec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs for more information.
